CHRIS NILAN
Chris Nilan was tough. For an Irish kid growing up in Boston, there was no other way. It seemed likely that Chris would end up on the wrong side of prison bars until he found hockey. He defied the odds and became one of the few American’s to become an integral part of The Montreal Canadiens, bringing his toughness & grit, and helping them win a Stanley Cup in ’86. Beyond being one of the toughest enforcers of his era, he could also score; having seasons where he notched over 20 goals. He ended his career as the leader in penalties per minute and still holds the record for the most penalties in a single game. Today he is still considered by many to be one of the National Hockey Leagues most accomplished enforcers. But without hockey as his anchor, he lost his way in retirement, descending into alcoholism & drug addiction, almost losing his life on more than one occasion. After getting sober, Chris began hosting his own sports radio show, OFF THE CUFF on TSN690 radio Montreal In March 2013. After nearly a decade on the show, he was fired by the company for refusing to get vaccinated against COVID-19.
